Hello everybody,
and welcome to my post about Rome.
First of all, I have to say that I'm in a very lucky position to be able to travel as much as I do.
Just to give you a little heads up I went there with my grandparents and as my grandmother is severely disabled I did not get to do all the touristy stuff because it's hard to get to some places with a wheelchair as well as it was very hot at the time we went there. We pretty much had 38 degrees so we only left the hotel after 2 pm.
On the first day, we did one of those bus tours to get a good overview of the things.
We then just had dinner and after that did a little tour ourselves and visited the Spanish steps by night.
The next day we went to the Vatican and visited St. Peters Square and St. Peter's Basilica. The queue was extremely long and there was no shade but luckily we got to the skip the queue because of my grandmother.
I do advise you if you want to visit any Basilica or Church or Dome or so do wear a long dress with a jacket or jeans with a T-Shirt. Otherwise, you need to buy stuff there which is expensive.
Afterwards, we went to the airport to drop off my uncle and headed to the beach later.
As Tuesday was supposed to be the hottest day we went to the Botanical Garden to be in the shade. Even though it still was boiling. Later we went to the Castle Sant'Angelo. This is the place where the Pope used to live. You had a nice few over Rome from there too.
On Wednesday we went to the Capitoline museum. From the hill there we had a nice view over some ruins. But the museum was also very interesting.
On Thursday our last day in Rome, we went to this one big building at the Piazza Venezia (i forgot the name and kinda seem not to find out what it is called) from there you have an amazing few over the Colosseum and the ruins where Rome was founded. Later went to the Pantheon and had the best dinner at a Restaurant there with a very nice view of the Pantheon.
On our last day before leaving, we decided to get outside Rome to go to a theme park. As it still was very hot we only got there at 4 pm what we didn't mind as they were open until 10 pm. I went on a few rides but mainly enjoyed the sunset and it getting a little cooler.
Saturday we had to leave. To be honest, Rome is a beautiful city with so much history but you do not wanna be there in summer and/or with your own car. Driving but also parking is mad there. You don't have any rules or lanes. It was mad and caused me some panic attacks.
If you want to visit Rome with someone who's disabled or in a wheelchair that's no problem everyone is super friendly and obliging. You won't be able to go everywhere but you can visit most places. You also can skip the line and probably won't have to pay (at least at some places). I won't advise you to go alone as the streets are not that great and I also advise you to stay at a hotel in the city centre.
The hotel we stayed at was The Brand Roma. It was hard to find it because the usual road has some work going on so we needed two sat-navs to get there. It wasn't in the centre but we didn't mind that because we took our car anyway.
The breakfast wasn't great either and our room was dirty and some days didn't even get cleaned. Our TV was broken for days even though we said it multiple times.
So basically it was crap and way too expensive for what we got.
But all in all, it was an amazing trip.
Next week there is going to be another travelling post as I currently am in Hamburg with some friends.
Love, Steff xx
PS: now here are some photos!!! Hope you enjoy!
